2:10 Brighton - Speculative Bet (2nd June)

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 5f 213y on good going. This looks a competitive race with a number of two-year-olds who are clearly capable of winning at this class. I wouldn't go crazy betting on this contest but Captainthunderbolt may prove some value at odds of 11/1+. Brian Meehan's son of Bushranger has been fancied on both starts to date and particularly interesting on his second start at Goodwood. The statistics that day suggested this brown colt would run a big race but after showing pace dropped away tamely. In fact, he was beaten by today's runner Welford and reason why he is greater odds. I don't think Captainthunderbolt ran his race that day and his handler opts for blinkers first time. In addition, this March foal has been given an entry for the Woodcote Stakes Listed race at Epsom [Saturday] but clearly connections feel this is a more likely proposition. Sadly there are only two places for each-way backers so I would advise a small win bet.
